Website Blog #1
Such is my current level of procrastination I realised Id never get anything done if I left it to myself so instead I present version 0.1alpha of my gaming website, which at the moment is just a blog Ive created for myself to get back in the writing habit really. If I ever do manage to pull the Another Castle project out of my sketchbook and into the realm of reality then at very least I’ll have some content pre made to start with but as it stands Im happy enough just plodding away with the odd post here and there on something games related, I figure it’ll keep me interested anyway.
So what is it?
Well installed a wordpress blog, modded the twentythirteen default theme (if I ever get around to making my own then so be it, but as it stands at least theres a decent framework in place in the meantime), having said that the fonts are my choice, as is the direction Im taking the graphics. Still have some css styles to tweak, not happy with the link colours or the headers yet, but getting there.
Added a few generic Plugins on an as used basis;
Basically
I wanted a nice simple way to display photos – wp-jquery-lightbox
I started getting spam after the second post – wp-spamshield (akismet just looks like too much hassle off the bat)
Needed a category excluder for these dev posts- ultimate category excluder
And will continue in that fashion on a bespoke basis.
On a personal note Im sort of enjoying the challenge of building my own site for once, and moving from my default cms to wordpress is a nice change of pace (especially after a semester of teaching the basics of it to a bunch of eager first year students, which is probably why Im sticking with it for this project, mind you the ease of plugins is a lovely thing. Say what you will about more off piste cms systems (I still love making sites in cmsmadesimple), but going back to the well supported WordPress system with its plethora of plug-ins, themes and robust media uploading tools, is a welcome break from the heavy lifting involved on cmsms (well giving up a little control anyway, which Im happy to for just a blog site) , or maybe Im just getting even more lazy (if that were possible?)
